Our First Day Was A Little Different

We started "school" last Monday.  I knew with us moving in the middle of September that we would have to take a few weeks off so we started a little early.  I tried to make the first day seem a little different than just any other day.  I had these great plans to make a fun breakfast and cute sign and let me tell you, I am the BEST at thinking of great things and then NEVER doing them.  I wrote a big K on this construction sheet paper and we just grabbed donuts, but hey the girls loved it.  Hattie would not even put her donuts down to take the picture.

The second week of school is going much better, for Molly anyways.  The first week there was a lot of rolling around on the floor with "my back hurts," "I don't want to do this," " I want it to still be summer."  Oh yeah, fun times!

As for Hattie, don't let this picture fool you.  I can get a solid 5 minutes of productivity out her and then she is off playing, which I am fine with, or watching Bubble Guppies.  We do take a lot of 'brain breaks" and Hattie likes to join in especially when we play Simon Says.

Watching Bubble Guppies

We are still at my in-laws so here is our set up for now.  Both Molly and Hattie have their own set of bins.  Molly's are labeled by subject so she knows what we are working on next.  Each evening I put the next days work in the bins.

If you are curious here is the curriculum we are using for each subject.  It can be a little overwhelming because there are lots to choose from.  I had help from some other friends that home school and even my own research.

Bible - Grapevine Studies
Math - Math U See
Reading - All About Reading
Handwriting - A Reason For and doing our own journal
Literature - Five in a Row
Science - Elemental Science (Intro to Science)
History - BJUPress (Heritage Studies 1)

I am not sure how often I will post about our home school adventure (or how long it will even last) but I needed to at least go public with it.
