Our First Day Was A Little Different

We started "school" last Monday.  I knew with us moving in the middle of September that we would have to take a few weeks off so we started a little early.  I tried to make the first day seem a little different than just any other day.  I had these great plans to make a fun breakfast and cute sign and let me tell you, I am the BEST at thinking of great things and then NEVER doing them.  I wrote a big K on this construction sheet paper and we just grabbed donuts, but hey the girls loved it.  Hattie would not even put her donuts down to take the picture.

The second week of school is going much better, for Molly anyways.  The first week there was a lot of rolling around on the floor with "my back hurts," "I don't want to do this," " I want it to still be summer."  Oh yeah, fun times!

As for Hattie, don't let this picture fool you.  I can get a solid 5 minutes of productivity out her and then she is off playing, which I am fine with, or watching Bubble Guppies.  We do take a lot of 'brain breaks" and Hattie likes to join in especially when we play Simon Says.

Watching Bubble Guppies

We are still at my in-laws so here is our set up for now.  Both Molly and Hattie have their own set of bins.  Molly's are labeled by subject so she knows what we are working on next.  Each evening I put the next days work in the bins.

If you are curious here is the curriculum we are using for each subject.  It can be a little overwhelming because there are lots to choose from.  I had help from some other friends that home school and even my own research.

Bible - Grapevine Studies
Math - Math U See
Reading - All About Reading
Handwriting - A Reason For and doing our own journal
Literature - Five in a Row
Science - Elemental Science (Intro to Science)
History - BJUPress (Heritage Studies 1)

I am not sure how often I will post about our home school adventure (or how long it will even last) but I needed to at least go public with it.

My Dad's 60th Birthday

This past weekend we traveled down to my parents for my dad's 60th birthday party!  Friday evening we had a little party for Hattie with my family.  Molly, Rylan, and Colton made the cupcakes.  My nephew Colton ALWAYS wears his "cooking hat" (aka hair net) when he helps cook.  It is so funny because he is very serious about it too.

These are the only two pictures I got from my dad's party.  I know..shame shame but we were so busy before getting things ready and then when it started there was no time to put down my drink to take pictures.  We all had a great time.  And just in case you cannot read the invitation below my dad wrote this special poem to put on it:

Has pain in one knee
His other hip hurts
Either constipated
Or has the squirts
His eyes got fuzzy
His back is itchy
What do you expect...He is turning 60!

Rylan, Molly, and then Mamaw in the background.  This is the only picture I got from the party!

Hattie Turns 2!!

I can't believe my baby is 2!  She is such a little toddler now and no longer a baby.  Part of me is so happy about that but then so sad at the same time........moving on......we had a little party with Bret's side of the the family this past weekend.  Hattie wasn't thrilled about the room singing to her but she tolerated it better than Molly always does.   She loved opening her gifts, especially anything associated with Bubble Guppies.  She is a little obsessed with that show right now.

By the way, we have finally found a house!!  I will post more about it later!
